Art, Alchemy & Island Smoke: An Intimate WCS Private Tasting at Our Studio Gallery

We welcomed a passionate group of collectors and spirits enthusiasts back to our home turf in Wan Chai for an exclusive WCS Private Tasting. Surrounded by vibrant contemporary canvases and original gallery artwork, the evening stripped away corporate formality in favor of raw whisky passion, in-depth cask discussion, and an unfiltered look into the liquid mechanics that define Scotland's most expressive regions.
With our regional maps laid out along the tasting tables, we guided our guests through a curated four-bottle flight charting the shift from mountainous Highland waxy richness to sweet Spanish sherry and ferocious coastal peat:
Ben Nevis 10 Year Old (Highland | 46.0% ABV)
The Profile: Waxy, oily, and defiantly old-school.
The Experience: We launched our liquid journey at the base of Ben Nevis mountain. Famous for its thick, viscous distillation profile, this Highland standard opened with rich apricot jam, freshly cut oranges, dark chocolate, and a faint whisper of wood smoke. The palate delivered dense notes of bitter orange peel and aromatic pipe tobacco, finishing long, warming, and spiced.
Royal Brackla 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish (Highland | 46.0% ABV)
The Profile: Decadent, velvety, and fruit-drenched.
The Experience: Stepping deeper into wood influence, the "King's Own" malt showcased the luxurious touch of Oloroso sherry seasoning. The nose filled our studio gallery with aromas of sherried fruit cake and buttered malt loaf. On the palate, dried apricots, dark berries, and cherries mingled with caramelized nuts and dark baking spices, leaving a sweet, tangy oak finish.
Talisker 10 Year Old (Isle of Skye | 45.8% ABV)
The Profile: Maritime, peppery, and unapologetically coastal.
The Experience: Moving offshore to the Isle of Skye, this dram brought raw island weather directly into the glass. The nose revealed crisp orchard apple, sea salt brine, and pungent seaweed smoke. On the palate, sweet malt and juicy pear were violently seized by an unmistakable crack of black pepper and smoldering driftwood embers.
Caol Ila 12 Year Old (Islay | 43.0% ABV)
The Profile: Medicinal, briny, and cleanly smoky.
The Experience: We rounded out our regional masterclass on the Sound of Islay. Balancing damp bonfire peat and maritime spray against sweet apricot, barbecue smoke, and cinnamon, Caol Ila delivered an elegant tug-of-war between sweet cereal malt and coastal soot that lingered long after the final pour.
Beyond the glasses, our live screen presentations sparked rich conversations about cask selection, maturation yields, and the growing intersection of luxury whisky investment with fine art. The intimate space allowed everyone to trade impressions, debate palate preferences, and examine how wood and time shape spirit character.
