Casks, Currency & High Performance: A Premium Whisky Masterclass for CL-MDRT

March 14, 2025

We had the distinct pleasure of hosting an exclusive, high-energy single malt whisky masterclass tailored specifically for the top-performing financial professionals of CL-MDRT (Premium Wealth Management). Held inside an upscale corporate seminar suite, the evening perfectly mirrored the principles of elite wealth management: meticulous asset selection, patient long-term maturation, and strategic portfolio diversification.

Just as managing high-net-worth portfolios requires balancing risk and reward, creating an exceptional single malt relies on balancing wood chemistry, spirit character, and environmental influence over decades.

Here is how our custom three-bottle tasting lineup challenged and delighted the palates of the CL-MDRT team:

1. Ben Nevis 10 Year Old (Highland)

  • The Profile: Bold, oily, and traditionally structured.

  • The Experience: We initiated our liquid portfolio with an old-school Highland classic. Ben Nevis is highly celebrated for its distinctively waxy, heavy mouthfeel and delicate touch of maritime smoke. On the nose, it greeted the team with rich apricot jam, fresh orange zest, and a layer of dark chocolate. It served as a fantastic example of a robust, un-chill-filtered spirit baseline that carries immense physical weight on the palate.

2. Craigellachie 2007 - 16 Year Old (Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition #4)

  • The Profile: Intense, sulfurous, and heavily sherried.

  • The Experience: Next, we shifted gears toward an ultra-premium independent bottling. Sourced from the iconic Speyside distillery Craigellachie, which still uses traditional worm tub condensers to create a heavy, muscular spirit, this 16-year-old expression was aged in premium 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts. Poured at a powerful 100 proof (57.1% ABV) with completely natural color, it flooded the room with deep holiday baking spices, rich molasses, and dark stewed plums—sparking an intense, engaging debate among the financial experts about the high value of independent bottlings.

3. Glenglassaugh Sandend (Coastal Highland)

  • The Profile: Tropical, briny, and delightfully vibrant.

  • The Experience: We brought our masterclass portfolio to a triumphant close on the rugged shores of Sandend Bay. Named the Whisky Advocate 2023 Whisky of the Year, this coastal Highland malt is matured in bourbon, manzanilla, and sauternes wine casks. It treated our guests to an unexpected wave of tropical sweetness—including ripe bananas, juicy pineapples, and vanilla ice cream—all perfectly cut by a distinct, refreshing wave of coastal sea salt.

The true highlight of the evening was witnessing the incredible camaraderie, shared laughter, and curiosity of the CL-MDRT team as they captured photos, asked sharp technical questions about cask maturation, and toasted to their collective milestones. Whether their preferences leaned toward the heavy, sherry-drenched muscle of the Craigellachie or the bright coastal sunshine of the Glenglassaugh, the event proved that world-class wealth management and fine whisky blending share an identical dedication to excellence.

A massive thank you to the management and elite advisors of CL-MDRT for their phenomenal energy, wonderful hospitality, and sharp palates.

May your investments continue to mature beautifully—Cheers!
